Rich in history
Simply stated by the last surviving charter member... "The Foundation Sportsmans Club started with a group of guys who needed a place to go".
Back in the early 80's, after meeting at local bait shops and shooting the breeze on their porches ... the opportunity arose to rent the current club. A former bait shop in shambles, the guys donated their skills and materials to remodel and add on to make the club the inviting outdoor enthusiast's "place to go" that it is today.
Shortly after the club was formed a young man named Johnny Fillbeck lost his battle with cancer. Johnny was a huge football fan, so the club members rallied and formed a 501(c)3 non profit to establish a scholarship fund in Johnny's name to help Bay Point athletic kids who go all 4 of their high school years here, to go to college. There are several other philanthropic endeavors the club also supports locally in Bay Point, CA.
Fundraising events of the past have included dances, bingo, crab feeds and breakfasts. Today, the number one fundraiser is The Original Sturgeon Derby held annually on Super Bowl weekend.
We appreciate your help in keeping the scholarships going by participating in the Original Sturgeon Derby and other events at the Foundation Sportsmans Club!
